[COVID-19 RESPONSE]FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF OCEAN SPRINGS
A STATEMENT FROM FPCOS LEADERSHIP AND STAFF
If you were present on Sunday, March 15 or watched the livestream of our worship service, you probably heard our plans to suspend in-person worship services and other gatherings for the foreseeable future, on the basis of recommendations put forth by the Center for Disease Control. We want to do the best we can to keep our members safe while helping our community “flatten the curve” in regards to transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
Beginning Sunday, March 22, we will move to a livestream-only worship service, which will stream online at www.fpcosms.com (and will be simulcast to Facebook Live) at 10:00 AM. We are encouraging families to “get ready for church”. Meaning, prepare for our 10:00 AM worship service by being dressed, having your coffee drunk and your breakfast eaten. Treat it as you would if you were getting ready for our normal corporate worship. If you have neighbors, families, or friends that don’t have access to Sunday morning worship, invite them to tune in to ours with you or from their own homes.
Our building will be closed for any kind of meetings – Vital Groups, Bible studies, Sunday Morning Bible Study, Wednesday Prayer Time, committee meetings, etc. We are currently researching and developing some online ministry resources to provide to our church family. We are encouraging everyone to participate in our Wednesday night prayer meeting by simply stopping what you are doing and spending some time in prayer. In that prayer meeting, we generally pray for our world, our nation, our community, our congregation, and individuals. You are invited to help us keep that Wednesday prayer rhythm.
The church office will be closed until further notice. Should you need assistance, you may call the church office (228-875-5326) and that call will be forwarded to a staff member who can help you. Some staff will continue to work from the office but some will work remotely. The ministry of your church staff will continue, albeit in new ways.

ONLINE WORSHIP ARCHIVE
HOLY WEEK 2020
Holy Week will look a little bit different this year, but here’s the good news – the story remains the same! Even though we can’t gather together at services on our church campus, we still want you to be able to prepare for Holy Week online in your homes.
So how are we going to do this? We’ve filmed a series of videos that we will post on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday to help keep our church family engaged in Holy Week. We’ll be adding videos daily in our Vimeo playlist. Just hover over the upper left of the video to reveal the playlist, click the downward arrow (View All) and select the video you want to watch.
Even though we have canceled in-person worship services until further notice, that doesn’t mean we have stopped being the church! We have come up with some creative ways to stay connected digitally during the coronavirus pandemic. Below you will find ministry resources for children, youth and adults.
With the kids home from school, now is a great time to really dive deep into the Gospel! One great resource is joining our Families of First Pres Facebook group – lots of great activities, resources and conversation with parents with kids ages 3 through 5th grade! And every Sunday right before our 10 AM online worship service, we’re encouraging you to have Sunday School in your home! You can download the week’s lesson below! Our children’s ministry director Aimie Barton has also curated a bunch of online resources that would be great for your kids. Check them out!
Youth ministry director Luke Mittwede has set up a Facebook group and a YouTube channel to keep our youth engaged and connected during the COVID-19 outbreak. Be sure to join in the fun!
For adults, Pastor Kory is going to continue his Acts chapel class online! Check out his virtual Sunday School on our Vimeo channel. Steve Wood comes to us from his front porch in the De Soto National Forest with a new Monday-Friday daily devotional called “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs” – be sure to tune in!
